The history of the establishment of the geology department at Kharazmi University dates back to the establishment of the natural sciences department consisting of geology and biology by the late Dr. Abdolkarim Gharib. However, it was in 1974 that, thanks to his efforts, geology and biology were formed as two separate departments along with the physics department in the newly established Faculty of Basic Sciences. The presence of renowned and prominent professors such as Dr. Ebrahim Aminsobhani, Dr. Yaghoub Lasmi, Dr. Abdolmajid Yaghoubpour, Dr. Sirous Parsi, Dr. Javad Eliasi, and Dr. Hossein Moinvaziri made the geology department one of the pioneers in planning and implementing postgraduate courses in the country. In this educational department, a master's degree program was launched for the first time in 1985 and a doctoral degree program in 1989. Considering the educational and research activities of the department, the scope of work, and changes in university policies, the geology department was upgraded to a faculty in 1993 based on the decision of the officials of the geology department. Currently, this faculty includes three departments: geology, applied geology, and geochemistry. So far, 636 people (1400) have graduated from all four levels of associate, bachelor, master, and doctorate. It is worth noting that currently, a large number of graduates of this faculty are serving our Islamic homeland in various government and private institutions and centers in educational, research, and investigative matters.
